Sea Horse

is it legal to own a sea horse in my house?

my cousin and i were wondering if it would be legal to own my own sea horse after coming home from disney world and seeing all the beautiful seahorses please help

Seahorses are LEGAL to keep in most countries. However, there may be restrictions on their trade. This is good though, it has created a market for seahorses bred in captivity, so keeping them does not affect wild populations, and as a by-product has created seahorses that are better suited for life in captivity.

Keep in mind though, seahorses are not easy to keep. They require a lot of time, dedication and money. If you've never kept a marine aquarium before, the best thing I can suggest is research, research and more research! Just maintaining marine aquariums are a chore, and seahorses are even more complicated.

One other piece of information. There is only one of the 45 species of seahorses that is classified as endangered. However it is thought that all seahorse population are at risk due to overfishing (intentional and by-catch) and habitat distruction. So even if you can get wild caught seahorses, you should always purchase captive bred seahorses. They're healthier anyways.
