What other important things I need know about it civil war?
There are walls and walls of books covering this subject. It would take days to answer this question. Basically, the civil war started by "states rights" The federal government was trying to enact controls on things that Southern states thought they were their own business. They left the Union and began his own nation, the Confederate States of America. The Union fought to get back into the single nation. slavery was legal in the southern states and some northern states. After the battle of Antietam in 1862, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in southern states, but not the northern states. After the civil slavery ended in all states with Amendment 13. The legal end of slavery in the country reached in December 1865 when it ratified the Thirteenth Amendment, which stated: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment of a crime of which the person has been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States or any place subject to their jurisdiction. "~
