Downrigger Fishing Tips and Tricks
Downrigging tips and techniques for the experienced fisherman.
Downrigging is undoubtedly the most accurate way to control fishing lure depth next to be anchored with a heavy weight on the bottom. With a little experimentation and some patience, along with the maintenance of records may easily become very skilled at reaching the desired depth, where it is believed the fish are. Or, usually, were your fish finder is showing they are.
My personal preference is the cannon electric downriggers for several reasons. I've had a few other brands I will not mention by name either simply collapsed or rusted well long before I felt it was my money's worth.
Now do some really sophisticated downrigging Canyon the system, but let's talk about the simple electrician called the Mag 10TS Magnum is the downrigger that serious boat captains trust for its reliability and durability. Them trust their unprecedented hardness, the faster recovery rate in the market (250 feet per minute) and a short feature-Stop that protects the boat from swinging weights exceeding holes in the ship's side. The Mag 10TS features a stylish metallic white finish and a stainless steel reel is quite difficult to manage or monofilament popular today "Super lines." It also has the positive control of ions to create a fish-attracting electrical field around your boat.
The first thing need to know is the depth and the speed with which you drag. The faster and / or deeper than troll, the heaviest weight you need to offset the drag water. Most downrig Great Lakes salmon fishermen use a five-pound ball because they are trolling just 1.5 to 3 mph and 15 to 30 feet deep, so that drag is not so great. By contrast, a deep-sea fisherman for mere downrigging can be up to 60 feet or more and trolling at 5 knots, that's a lot of drag and would be better served with a weight of 20 pounds.
After determining the weight size you need is time to do a little experimentation before leaving for fish. Reaching a depth around it to be fishing. Set the speed of the boat to the speed you think you will need for the target species. Drops the ball to the bottom until you feel the power of wandering. Quickly stop the decline and begin to retract the cable until hard again. Check the depth gauge the installer and the note by the weight of the ball, speed, water depth and the depth of the reading on the downrigger.
Hence, experiment with different speeds and depth of cable to record enough information to know how much cable to release at a given speed and depth. You should be able to calculate the amount cable needed to run May 10 to 20 feet above the bottom using a percentage of cable required to reach the bottom.
I usually stay about 10 feet on the merits "for a couple of reasons. One, do not want to be obsessed with something that can not lose and have to cut the cord. And two: I know the bottom fish will come up that far and further to take the proper bait.
We always keep our main line of the ball to the bait or lure at 10 "or less to take advantage field of negative ions around the ball. Any further back you lose that advantage.
All said, now all you need is a good online version connected to your ball, a good big 7 'rod and conventional reel with the line of appropriate size, the right bait and the boat to transport all-in downrigging Home Today, you'll be glad you did.
